13 Reasons Why (Spoilers)

(Spoilers and Possible Triggers)

Let me start this off by saying when I first read this book I was not in a great place. I had been depressed for almost 3 years at this point. When I read the book it triggered a lot of emotion I was not completely ready to face yet. So I know it's still one of those big hype that everyone is talking about with the show being a great hit. But if you are to watch it or you're going to read the book and you have a history of any mental illness just be aware of the triggers it can cause. Also if you are currently going through something please reach out. There are all types of hotlines, or teachers, even strangers (myself included) that are willing to help you.

13 Reasons Why: A book based on a girl named Hannah committing suicide. When she died she left two sets of 13 tapes, giving reason of why she decided to end her life. One set of tapes was sent of to a row of people all being some kind of cause in the ending results. Clay our main character being of course one of them. Though not in the way it seems. But we will get back to that in a bit. The second set of tapes was given to someone she could trust to send them out if the other people did not decide to pass the tapes, but to destroy them. It goes through a list of people all in some way related. Rapes, first kisses, ex-best friends, the list of reasoning seeming never ending. The only thing Hannah really needed was a friend. One friend she did have though was Clay. The boy who loved the broken soul. But Hannah had already been through to much damage at this point. How can sweet lovable Clay possibly save her. He couldn't and in that sense he became a reason. You learn to develop these feelings of hatred towards all these characters revolving Hannah's death.

Even if this book triggered younger me, to this day it is still a number one recommendation for people to read. I fell in love with this book, with Hannah and Clay. The reasoning behind Hannah's suicide made perfect sense to me. It made me feel at home. I knew those sense of hopelessness and drowning. Jay Asher did such an amazing job writing this book that in 30 years I still without a doubt will be able to turn around and say 13 Reasons Why is a spectacular read and I will continue to recommend it.
